The Post Tab
This is where you'll spend most of your time (unless you have a thing for entering your account details over and over). There are 6 post types to choose from: Text, Photo, Link, Quote, Chat and Audio.
-
The Sites Tab
Tumblrette comes with a built-in browser that can display your Tumblr Dashboard as well as your main site and any tumblelogs you belong to.
-
The Settings Tab
The Setting Tab is where you'll manage all your account information.
Learning The Interface
-
The Basics
All post types basically function the same way. You touch the post type that you'd like to send, enter your content and touch "Send". If the post was successful the button will change to "Sent!". If it failed, Tumblrette will ask you if you want to check your settings. Optionally, you can tap "Cancel" to return to the post types list. Let's go over the specifics of each post type.
-
Text Post
Text posts have two fields; a body and an optional title. Tap in the field you want to fill and type! Remember, now you can use the super elegant Markdown syntax to pretty up your posts.
-
Photo Post
Photo posts are the most complex post type. Once a photo post loads, it will automatically ask you if you want to choose an existing photo or take a new one. Tap the button corresponding to what you want to do. (Note that if you're using an iPod Touch it won't let you take a new picture. You probably already knew that. I hope.) After you choose your photo, it's shown on the right-hand side of the view. If you want to pick a different picture, tap it and Tumblrette will ask you for your photo type again and replace the existing photo in the post. Now just enter a description (optional) and tap "Send". (Another note; posting times on EDGE can be upwards of 25 seconds. If you put your iPhone to sleep it will continue to send but if you tap the Home button it will be lost forever.).
-
Link Post
Link posts have a URL field and two optional fields; Name and Description. Tap in the field you want to fill and type!
-
Quote Post
Quote posts have a Quote field and an optional Source field. Tap in the field you want to fill and type!
-
Chat Post
Chat posts have a Dialogue field and an optional Title field. Chats work just like they do in the Tumblr site; enter the first person followed by ":" and then what they said. Hit return and type in the second person followed by ":" and then what they said. Continue until your conversation is complete.
-
Audio Post
Audio posts are designed to be dead simple (I mean, it only has two buttons). Hit the "Record" button and record whatever it is that strikes your fancy. When you're done, tap "Stop". The "Play" button does just what it says it should. While a recording is playing back, the button will change to "Stop", allowing you to stop the recording. To re-record, just tap "Record" again. A dialog will warn you that you'll lose the previous recording. Just as in Photo Posts, there's an optional description field that you can fill out as well.

Advanced Post Options
You may have noticed something by now. There's a bar at the bottom of the content area on all the different post types labeled "Open advanced post options". This is what separates average Tumblrs from the Tumblr illuminati. Under advanced post options you can set a post as private, set what tumblelog to send the post to (if you belong to any), change the date on a post and even add tags.
-
Save for later
If you've added text into any of the fields (or taken a photo in photo post) and you touch the "Close" button in the upper-left hand corner, you'll be asked if you want to save the post for later, clear the post, or cancel. If you choose "Save for later", the post will be saved until you're ready to get back to it, even if you quit Tumblrette. Choosing "Clear post" will get rid of anything you've done, so be careful! "Cancel" will return you to your post so you can resume editing. Any posts that have been saved for later will be marked with a blue dot in the main Post Tab.

The Sites tab starts you off in your Tumblr Dashboard and automatically logs you in (as long as your account info is correct in settings). If you want to check your actual site or one of your other tumblelog pages, click the site title in the title bar to launch a site picker and choose the site you'd like to view. Once you've made your selection, touch the "Go" button. To reload the current site, touch the reload button in the upper-right hand corner. There's even a back button in the upper-left hand corner if you want to, you know, go back.

There are two mandatory fields in the Settings tab. You must enter a correct email address and password. Once you have, tap either the "Done" button on the keyboard or the "Check account info" button (the one with the light on it). If your account info was correct, the light will be green. Otherwise it'll be red. It will also display your main tumblelog below your password. Each time you load the Settings tab Tumblrette will automatically check your account info for you, so that light gives you an instant status. What if you don't have a Tumblr account yet? No problem. Tap the "Sign up for a Tumblr account" button and you'll be whisked away to www.tumblr.com/login to create a free Tumblr account.

Post A Screenshot From Your iPhone
Want to show off your Home screen or post a map of where you are via the Maps application? Easy. Set your iPhone up the way you want it to be seen and press both the Home & Sleep buttons at the same time. If you did it right the screen will flash white. Now launch Tumblrette and touch Photo Post. When you're asked which type of photo you'd like to use, pick "Choose existing photo". Look under "Camera Roll". There it is!

Post An Image You Found On Safari
Find an image on Boing Boing of Xeni Jardin in a steampunk unicorn costume that you want to post? Great. Once you've found your photo in Safari all you have to do is hold your finger down on it for about 2 seconds. A sheet will pop up from the bottom of the screen. Touch "Save Image". Now launch Tumblrette and touch Photo Post. When you're asked which type of photo you'd like to use, pick "Choose existing photo". Look under "Camera Roll". There it is!
